BIOGRAPHY
As we approach Dario Perez-Flores' work, we are seduced by this immense expanse. His entire artistic life is devoted to his inspiring work, his strict compositions, the result of a long evolutionary process, pursuing bright colors contrasting with the most radical - black and white.
His solid academic training at the Valencia / Venezuela School of Fine Arts led Perez-Flores to participate in art and experimental sculpture fairs in Venezuela, his home country. Between 1961 and 1970, he made exclusively Plexiglas sculptures with moving, unstained elements. This group of works accompanied him to Paris and is reflected in his first kinetic works until 1976, when his works were put in color.
When Perez-Flores moved to Paris in 1970, the kinetic and geometric movement was already well established by a group of Latin Americans in the entourage of Denise Rene and his gallery: The Park, Sobrino, Soto, Cruz-Diez, among others. Their work aimed at a synthesis of the arts, geometric shapes playing in the reflection, shadows, a real agitation by the wind or the electricity or a virtual movement in the perception of the spectator. Elements merged into the artistic world of these artists: color and movement. It was the beginning of a creative explosion, and Latin Americans were there, taking an important part in the origin and development of optical-kinetic art. This is the context of Perez-Flores' long and profound research. He has intensively studied the scientific "Farbenlehre", the Bauhaus and De Stijl theories. With his extensive knowledge, he begins a solitary artistic career while maintaining good relations with other members of the group.
For more than twenty years, the work of Perez-Flores has evolved considerably. His search for aesthetic events has never faded in the face of the inconstant nature of color, line, plain or space and their ambiguity. The guideline of his work is not only the overwhelming presence of colors, but his particular technique - both in design and in painting -: he creates a very delicate fabric of lines, appearing mysteriously, giving shape to the basic material and with pigments.
In the mid-eighties, Perez-Flores began the creation of a large series of drawings and reliefs called "Prochromatic", in which the vertical elements are preponderant, confirming his interest in color, which dates back to 1976 These works prove only his research in the movement but in harmony of gradual degradation of colors. The spatial sensation of dynamic chromatic can be even more expressive than their kinetic effects.
